PHILADELPHIA, August 21, 2009 – The
2009 Philly Fringe and
keila cordova dances are pleased to announce the world premiere performances of
GOLD,
Happy Inside and
Meteorologica, on Wednesday, September 9; Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Painted Bride Art Center in Old City at 230 Vine Street.
GOLD
Deconstructing old movies and modern day videos, keila cordova dances digs into the classic trinity of love, sex and money, taking audiences on a dance theater merry-go-around exploring the price of desire in the war of love. The company collaborates with Philadelphia tap artist, Pam Hetherington; sound designer, Troy Byker; lighting designer Melissa Mizell and set designer, Andrew Thompson, merging the company’s celebrated fusion of powerful dance, text, and humor.
Keila Cordova works with mostly local dance and theater artists, finding inspiration in movies of the 20's and 30's; in modern music videos that market female sexuality and ambition; and in magazines that romanticize luxury: images of women draped in glamour and jewelry; and books by authors who share similar obsessions: Tisa Bryant, Jerome Charyn, Tricia Rose. The company weaves together a breathtaking visual narrative of movement using original dance, text and song and unearthed movement and text.
Happy Inside
In times of crisis and economic struggle, we often remember to look at the simple things in life to remind us of the celebration of living. Happy Inside is a jumble of lists, memories, regret, pain and hopeful possibilities.
Meteorologica
Keila Cordova Dances has been exploring the modern dance possibilities of weather reporting for a few years, which has created opportunities to converse with the people who dedicate their lives to their passion: meteorology. This work is a conversation on the collision of dance and weather.
